THE ARTISTS
Janet was formally trained in Fine Arts at McMaster University, graduating in 1974. Shortly after graduation, she started her career as a graphic illustrator at the National Capital Commission (NCC). Over the years, she continued her education, while working at the NCC in both graphic and industrial design. Throughout the last 15 years of her employment with the NCC, she worked as a senior industrial designer involved in both project management and design. In Janet’s later years at the NCC, projects relating to outdoor interpretation and public art were her specialty and passion. She earned a reputation for being on schedule, within budget and covering all the bases. During this time, she also honed her own art skills in sculpture, mold making and bronze casting. Since her retirement from the NCC in 2007, the unique combination of her skills as a sculptor, her experience as a designer/manager, her understanding of government processes and quality standards, and her ability to bring together and manage the many disciplines required to develop and implement a public art project have made her a sought-after commodity.
Mitchell’s forte is sculpture and all the processes required to take an idea from conception through to installation. He excels in every aspect of the process. Mitchell developed his skills over the last 18 years through training with master craftsmen, artists, mold makers and foundries. This training has enabled him to develop an expertise which he continues to expand and now shares with other artists through teaching out of Worldview Studio. Prior to his art career, Mitchell worked in many areas from managing his own business, to home construction, master carpentry, installation and landscaping. The skills he developed in these professions are a valuable support to his art career.
Together, Janet and Mitchell are a formidable team. Both are talented sculptors, and their talent is supplemented by the skills Janet developed in her career at the NCC and Mitchell’s ability to make things happen in a smooth, seamless and exacting way. Foundry subcontractors round out the team dynamics providing the highest level of technical metal casting skills and expertise available, from table top sculpture to monumental public works. We also draw on an extensive network of related industry professionals when and where required.
